Ever since moving to Atlanta Sam and I have wanted to take a weekend trip to Charleston, SC since it is only a 5 hour drive. We were in major need of a weekend getaway and finally booked our trip! We stayed at The Elliott House Inn, the most charming hotel that was walking distance to many restaurants and bars and offers many complimentary amenities: bike rentals, wine and cheese happy hours, continental breakfast, and mimosas on Saturdays. Keep reading for a 3 day weekend itinerary of this beautiful charming city:
Arrive: Late lunch at Taco Boy. This place has a great outdoor area and is a highly Instagrammed spot. Our order: Skinny Casa Margarita, Quacamole, Tempura Shrimp Taco, Taco Americano, and the Grilled Chicken Taco.
Later: Checked into hotel at The Elliott House Inn and explored Downtown Charleston and walked to Rainbow Row.
Then: Stopped for drinks at 82 Queen to cool off from the humidity and heat. This bar was conveniently located right next door to our hotel and has a GREAT happy hour!
Night: We had 8:00 dinner reservations at Felix Cocktails et Cuisine, a super cool French restaurant on King Street. For dinner we ordered the French Onion Soup, Petit Steak-Frites, Gnocchi à la Grand-Mère, and a glass of the Château de Saint Cosme.
Late Night: After dinner we looked for a chill bar to have a few drinks at before headed home for the night. We stumbled upon Republic Garden and Lounge, they had an adorable outdoor patio with a live band.
Morning: We enjoyed a free continental breakfast that was delivered to our room and scouted out some photo spots before it got too hot out.
Afternoon: Drove 20 minutes out of the city for a beach day on Sullivans Island. This was the most adorable little beach town filled with cute restaurants and bars! Practically the whole beach is public, so we did street parking and walked to the nearest boardwalk. After a day on the beach, we stopped by the famous Poes Tavern for a beer and to split a burger. We ordered the Pit and Pendullum burger.
Late Afternoon: We made it back to our hotel just in time to enjoy their complimentary wine & cheese happy hour in the courtyard. This happens everyday from 5 PM – 6 PM.
Night: We enjoyed a casual dinner at Coast Bar & Grill, which was a cute little seafood restaurant tucked away on a little alleyway downtown. For dinner we ordered a dozen raw oysters, Bacon Wrapped Sea Scallops, and the Blackened Swordfish.
Late Night: We walked around the corner to Hotel Bennett to have a night cap drink at their rooftop bar. This is a beautiful, brand new hotel that has multiple bars including a champagne and caviar bar that is ALL PINK! I highly recommend stopping here for a drink one night or just stopping by to walk around the hotel.
Morning: We took advantage of our hotel’s complimentary breakfast and mimosas in the courtyard, another great perk of this hotel! Before it got too hot we walked around the city a little and ventured over to the Waterfront Park and stopped to take some pictures along the way in charming alleyways. (If you are a blogger or looking to take pictures while you are here morning is the best time to do so to beat crowds and the heat).
Afternoon: We stopped by the Charleston Farmers Market to walk around then went to lunch at Leon’s Fine Poultry & Oyster Shop. This is quite possibly the most Instagrammed restaurant in Charleston. It was kind of farther away from downtown then we expected, so I recommend Ubering or riding a bike there. We ordered the fried shrimp, fried chicken sandwich, and fried brussel sprouts (don’t expect to eat healthy there).
Late Afternoon: Rented bikes through Holy Spokes which is their local bike share, it was super easy to rent all you have to do is download the app. We then biked to Holy City Brewery & Revelry Brewing . We really enjoyed the beer and rooftop at Revelry!
Dinner: We opted for a casual last minute dinner, as I became very sick on our last day, so we opted for Pearlz Oyster Bar as it was very close to our hotel and they had a dozen raw oysters for $18!! We sat at the raw bar to eat and ordered the Pappardelle Pasta with shrimp and the Pearlz Signature Burger.
