If you live in the Atlanta area or are planning to visit, Piedmont Park is a MUST do!! Piedmont Park is located in the Midtown area, and it has the best view of Atlanta. There is a lake, dog park, huge trees, a great restaurant, and a ton of great places for pictures. People come and bring their dogs, frisbees, corn hole, bikes, you name it. It is a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city! Pack a blanket, your favorite wine (secretly), and snacks to have a picnic with a view. The park is beautiful this time of year, with the changing color of the leaves.
Happy Tuesday my loves! Today I want to do a blog post that’s different from the usual and not fashion related. Something a lot of people don’t know about me is that I love to cook! It is a great stress reliever and it is also a fun cheap date night for me and Sam.
I don’t know about y’all, but I am HUGE fan of the whole Sunday funday trend. I love spending this day with friends and family at a local brewery. For this Sunday in particular we went to Avondale Brewery in Birmingham, Alabama. This is hands down one of my favorite breweries in town. They have such an amazing outdoor area with a big stage, and they always have a great band playing.
It is no secret to anyone that knows me that I am a lover of beer. So I always enjoy visiting new breweries to taste/try new beers. Also, the breweries tend to always have the BEST food trucks parked at them, which always makes any place better. There is nothing better than a beautiful summer day filled with beer, food, live music, and family. Why can’t everyday be like that? Especially this horrid Monday because I’m having a severe case of the Mondays today!
For the perfect brewery outfit you need something that is comfortable and cute, but yet it still hides your beer belly (it happens to the best of us). For me, that perfect outfit is this super breathable and lightweight button up top. A good/comfortable white button up is truly hard to find, most of the time they are rather too structured or too fitted. This one was perfect! I bought this shirt in an XL because I wanted it to be oversized so I can wear it with leggings in the fall and winter. When wearing this top with cut-offs I like to tie it up or do the ever so classic front tuck. These shorts have been a staple piece for me this summer, and they were featured in a previous post. For shoes, these are a go to for me because they are super comfortable yet still are cute and stylish. Unfortunately mine are sold out, but I linked very similar pair below.

Something that y’all may not know about me is that me and my boyfriend sam are long distance, and have been for almost the whole 3 years that we have been together. So date nights are very important to us. This is a time for us to reconnect and fill each other in on what has been going on in our lives. We have made it a point to have at least one date night every time we get to see each other.
So here is a little back story on us. Me and Sam met in Birmingham, where we are both from. I was a freshman in college at The University of Alabama and he had just graduated at Mississippi State. Quickly into our relationship Sam got accepted into grad school for his MBA in Pittsburgh, where he lived for the first two years of our relationship. After graduating, Sam accepted a job in Atlanta which is only 2 hours away from me. Even though we are much closer now we are both very busy with work and school that we may only get to see each other every two weeks. So date nights are very important to us.
So, a great date night has multiple elements that go into it to make it as close to perfect as possible. For us the three elements are great food, delicious drinks, and a beautiful outfit (the last one is mostly for me). Even after you have been with the same person for over three years you should try to always look your best for those special nights.
For this particular date night we opted for dinner at a new Asian fusion restaurant in Birmingham called EastWest and then ended the night with drinks at the new Elyton Hotel rooftop bar. Although, we got caught up in our date night and didn’t document the part at the rooftop. This is sometimes the best part of a date night, when you get so carried away spending time with each other that you forget to document it.
For this outfit I decided to go with something more simple. I chose this gorgeous black slip dress detailed with white polka dots and a tasteful black lace trim at the bottom. This dress was the perfect mix of sexy and classy — which is the perfect date night combo. Men don’t care about all of the current flashy trends. When you are dressing up for your boyfriend/husband on a date night you should keep it more simple, feminine, and down to the basics.
Other great date night ideas:
- Picnic and a movie in the park
- Visit a museum
- Professional sporting event (mine and Sam’s favorite)
- Visit one of your local breweries
- Food/wine/beer festival
- Speakeasy (these are becoming very popular lately and are fun and intimate)
- Skyline Park rooftop carnival (for all of my Atlanta residents)
- Rent bikes and hit all of your local hot spots
This past weekend I had the most unforgettable time at the Sloss Music & Arts Festival in Birmingham, AL with my sister Ariel and my best friend Kensley. When you combine listening to some of your favorite bands with great food and drinks, how could it not be a blast? I was able to see bands like Alabama Shakes, Nathaniel Rateliff, Judah and the Lion, NEEDTOBREATHE, Sturgill Simpson, Widespread Panic, and many more.
This was my very first music festival, and now I’m hooked! They are such an amazing experience that everyone should get to do at least once. One of the main things that caught my attention all weekend was all of the wonderful and unique festival fashion that I was surrounded by. I love seeing individuals express themselves through fashion, and a festival is the best place to witness that. It’s a an event where you can completely mix up your usual style and maybe rock something new that you thought you could never pull off.
This was more of an exploring day for us because most of the bands we wanted to see were on day two. So we started the day by exploring all of the adorable photo walls and looking at the local artists’ art work.
Then we hit up the Tito’s tent where they had a build your own drink bar. It’s safe to say that this tent is where we spent most our day at to hide from the rain (the delicious drinks didn’t hurt either). I just mean, is it me, or does a pretty drink somehow seem to taste better?
Later, we danced the night away in the rain listening to Spoon, NEEDTOBREATHE, and Widespread Panic. This dress was super breezy and perfect for the rain. It originally came with a white slip dress underneath. However, the material would have been crazy hot, so I took out the slip dress and opted for a black sports bra and Spanx. I really stepped out of my comfort zone with this outfit (which is what you should do a music festival). This backpack purse is a must have for a festival because it allows you to dance the night away while holding everything that you will need.

This was the biggest day of the festival, so we spent all day hopping from stage to stage with not much exploring time in between. I didn’t mind at all though; I got to spend all day listening to some of my favorite bands while obviously making pit stops at the Tito’s tent again. I’m not kidding, those drinks were incredible!
We then went back and forth between stages to see Judah and the Lion, Nathaniel Rateliff, Sturgill Simpson, K-Flay, and Alabama Shakes. All of these bands put on incredible and unforgettable shows, but I have to say Alabama Shakes was the best. If you ever have a chance to see them live, DO IT!
The weather was much more cooperative on day two, but that meant it was hotter than day one. So I went with a white one-piece swimsuit that I wore as a bodysuit with my favorite blue jean cut-off shorts on top (this made peeing extremely difficult). This outfit was perfect for beating the heat! For shoes I went with a pair of 4 year old combat boots to help me dance and get around in the mud more comfortably. Of course this outfit was completed with a crap ton of glitter (which I’m still covered in 3 days later) — it wouldn’t be a festival if there wasn’t glitter right?

Which was your favorite music festival that you went to this festival season? Which festival should I experience next?
